GO ‘OVER THE EDGE’ WITH SPECIAL OLYMPICS ARIZONA AND RAPPEL 27 STORIES DOWN PHOENIX SKYSCRAPER ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19

UNIQUE AND REWARDING EXPERIENCE BRINGS SOAZ COMMUNITY TOGETHER WHILE RAISING MUCH NEEDED FUNDING FOR SOAZ ATHLETES AND PROGRAMMING

Special Olympics Arizona (SOAZ) announced today that spots are still available for its annual Over the Edge Challenge, an opportunity to raise money for SOAZ while getting the chance for an exhilarating, challenging rappel from a skyscraper high above downtown Phoenix.

This year’s Over the Edge will take place at CityScape in downtown Phoenix on Saturday, Nov. 19, with those who accept the challenge rappelling the 27-story building.  Online registration is still open and can be found at https://specialolympicsarizona.org/over-the-edge/.

Once registered, participants will be asked to fundraise a minimum of $1,000 to be guaranteed a rappel spot for Over the Edge.  The $1,000 represents the cost to support two athletes for an entire year at Special Olympics Arizona.  No prior ropes experience is necessary to participate.

“Over the Edge is one of the coolest events we host each year, not just for our athletes but for the entire community,” said Jamie Heckerman, President and CEO of Special Olympics Arizona.  “These athletes are the inspiration for this event, they face challenges every day when they step on the field, so this opportunity to rappel down a skyscraper allows the chance for participants to step into the shoes of our athletes and face their fears as well.  It is a great event to bring together the SOAZ community, while raising money for these inspiring athletes.”

To assist with fundraising efforts, all registered participants will be set up with their very own personal fundraising website that they can use to solicit contributions for this heroic fundraiser from family, friends and coworkers.  Only those that reach the $1,000 fundraising minimum will be allowed to rappel – and all participants must be at the goal by November 4th to be assigned a preferred rappel spot.  Those not at the goal by November 4th will be assigned a remaining time slot, and those who have not reached the minimum goal on Over the Edge day (Nov 19th) will be responsible for the remaining amount before rappelling.
