Special Olympics Arizona Names Jamie Heckerman President & Chief Executive Officer

The Board of Directors of Special Olympics Arizona (SOAZ), one of the leading affiliates in Special Olympics North America, is proud to announce they have appointed Jamie Heckerman as their new President & Chief Executive Officer.

 

Phoenix, AZ, September 21, 2018 The Board of Directors of Special Olympics Arizona (SOAZ), one of the leading affiliates in Special Olympics North America, is proud to announce they have appointed Jamie Heckerman as their new President & Chief Executive Officer. In her role as President & CEO, Jamie will lead SOAZ’s dedicated team of professionals and grow the impact of the Special Olympics movement throughout the state of Arizona. She will expand the organization’s programs, move its headquarters location and increase its capacity to widen the number of athletes and volunteers involved in SOAZ. Jamie brings extensive experience in the Special Olympics movement, having held AreaDirector positions, Training positions, Competition Director positions, Operations and Quality Control positions.

 

She also served as the Interim CEO for nine months during 2018. Jamie’s proven record of success in Special Olympics Arizona will ensure that our more than 25,000 athletes and almost 23,000 volunteers will have a strong leader to advocate for them moving forward, said Commander Douglas Steele, SOAZ Board Chair. Jamie had this to say about her appointment, I am beyond honored and thrilled to have been chosen to lead Special Olympics Arizona at this pivotal time in the movement. As a veteran of the organization, I am anxious to continue the rich legacy of SOAZ and also advance the organization into the future. Headquartered in Phoenix, AZ with staff throughout the state, Special Olympics Arizona’s mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The search was conducted by Vetted Solutions, a national non-profit executive search firm with offices in Washington, DC, Chicago and Los Angeles.
